The Anchorage Police Department is investigating an indecent exposure  incident reported by a female stating that she was the victim of that crime on Sunday morning at the Holy Family Cathedral at 800 West 5th Avenue.

The complainant told investigators that she had gone into a small prayer room prior to mass and knelt down in one of the front pews to pray. As she  was doing so, she became aware that someone had “walked up behind her.” She initially thought that it was her husband until she “smelled a foul odor,” she told investigators.

She turned around to find that an unknown suspect was standing behind her “with his pants and underwear pulled down below his knees with his genitals exposed,” the investigation revealed.

The victim also reported that the suspect had an object in his hand, but she was unable to identify the object. She immediately fled the area before any contact was made.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]Investigators also stated that a video on Facebook showing a male suspect, matching the description of the church perp, in a 5th Avenue Mall restroom peering over a stall wall at another person in the next stall.

“The suspect was described as a black male in his early 30s, approximately 5’7” tall, and possibly homeless,” APD investigators say.

Surveillance footage from a business near the church revealed the suspect walking on the sidewalk.
