APD Takes One into Custody after North Anchorage Car Chase/Shots-Fired

Officers with the Anchorage Police Department arrested the driver of a stolen vehicle following a chase and shots-fired on Thursday, APD revealed.

Officers  on patrol spotted a stolen vehicle in the McCarrey Street and Mountain View Drive area at 10:24 pm on Thursday night and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped away and took police on a chase.

When patrol vehicles attempted to block the vehicle in at Northern Lights and Boniface, the vehicle jumped the median, crashed into a patrol vehicle and sped away down Boniface.

Officers continued to attempt to make contact with the vehicle, then, at Mountain View Drive, the driver of the vehicle opened fire on the officers. The vehicle, stil eluding, drove west on L Street, and eventually came to a stop on L Street and 9th. When the vehicle stopped, the occupants in the vehicle, two men and a woman, jumped out and fled on foot.

Police took two of the three into custody after a short chase.

Police identified Alexander Lemana as the driver and shooter. He was charged with two counts of Assault, Misconduct Involving Weapons, Vehicle Theft, Criminal Mischief, and Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer.
