An ELT activation from an aircraft near Whittier was picked up by the Rescue Coordination Center and was passed on to Alaska State Troopers on Saturday morning, troopers revealed on the trooper dispatch.

The Emergency Locator Transmission was picked up by RCC at approximately 11:30 am on Saturday, but a response by AST was hampered by inclement weather. RCC and the US Coast Guard were able to launch and initiate a search, however. Both agencies reported that the aircraft was located. Unfortunately, the pilot, whose identity has yet to be revealed, perished in the crash.

The Alaska Mountain Rescue Group and an Alaska State Trooper Helo is currently attempting to access the area of the crash.
