Authorities are releasing very little in the Fairbanks Murder/Suicide case that unfolded in the Hampton Inn Suites in Fairbanks the day after Thanksgiving, although more may be released today.
Fairbanks police responded to the Hampton Inn in Fairbanks on Friday afternoon after hotel staff alerted them to a man crying outside of a hotel room on the second floor. When police arrived, the distraught man directed them to the room, where they found four people dead from gunshot wounds.
Following the initial investigation, they identified the four as 54-year-old Linda Hutton, 22-year-old Emily McDonald, 22-year-old McKay Hutton and 8-week-old Teagan Hutton. According to police. McKay killed his mother,, 22-year-old wife and 8-week-old daughter before turning the weapon on himself. The murder weapon was recovered from the scene.
Police have ruled out the man crying in the hallway as a suspect or person of interest. His name was not released.
Police say that drugs or alcohol was not a factor in the killings. It has been discovered that McKay had a recent serious injury that put him in the hospital, but, it is not known to have been a factor either.
Emily and McKay had been married only for a year. Emily had another child, a boy from a previous relationship. Although images showed that the boy was present just the day before, he was not at the hotel when the shootings occurred.
Autopsies on the four shooting victims is scheduled to take place today.
