CHIGNIK LAGOON, ALASKA-On Friday, August 26th, the Alaska State Troopers received a report at 5 pm of a man overboard and missing from the Fishing Vessel Antoinette Renee located at Chignik Lagoon. They reported that Moses Kosbruk, age 43 of Perryville was last seen at 3 am that day.
The vessel, Antoinette Renee, is a commercial fishing boat from the area. Although the fishing season is over, the persons on board were fishing for personal use. According to reports, the persons on board had been cleaning their catch of Red Salmon and were also drinking at the time. He was last seen at 3 that morning.
After the call reporting the missing person, a Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched to the scene that evening to search the immediate area in and around the Lagoon. The search that evening was unsuccessful.
Alaska State Troopers responded to assist in the search the next day. The Coast Guard searched Saturday during the daylight hours in efforts to locate Kosbruk, again with no success.
As of the closing of the day on Sunday, there has been no further progress. Local fishing boats are at the scene and are assisting and continuing in the search efforts. Formal search efforts are now suspended. Alaska State Troopers believe that the body of Moses Kosbruk has been swept out to sea.
Troopers believe alcohol was a factor in his disappearance.
Chignik Lagoon is located on the southern shore of the Alaska Peninsula 450 miles to the southwest of Anchorage. The sea dependent community there has approximately 78 residents.
