A 24-year-old North Carolina man who entered and won a doughnut eating contest against Elizabeth City Firefighters and police this week was promptly arrested the next day.

Bradley Hardison handily beat his opponents in the doughnut eating contest downing eight Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts in under two minutes, won a trophy and then got his picture taken with his trophy in a local North Carolina paper. The event was part of the Elizabeth City Police Department’s National Night Out Against Crime.

The article with his picture was his downfall. as it turns out, Hardison was wanted in break-ins at a grocery store and a storage facility in the area. He was also being sought in connection with a theft of $5,000 from Forbes Homes in Pasquotank County.

Police had been looking for Hardison for nine months. The next day, a deputy with the Camden County Sheriff’s office saw the article in the newspaper and after being congratulated on his win, the champ was arrested for the felony break-ins.
