Eluding Driver Dies in Wasilla Crash

On Thursday afternoon an eluding driver in a stolen vehicle was killed in a cash as he attempted to race away from pursuing officers in Wasilla.

Alaska State Troopers received a call of a suspicious vehicle at 2:39 on Thursday, the caller reported that the vehicle was at a construction site in Wasilla. Using the details given them by the caller, they found that it had been previously reported stolen. They further found that the vehicle was the subject of a REDDI report earlier in the day.

When troopers located the vehicle at 2:44 pm,, it was traveling on Spruce Avenue toward Church Road. It was at that time that troopers attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver did not heed the troopers however, and continued driving toward Church Street.

At 2:46 pm, the driver of the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Spruce Avenue and Church Road.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was declared deceased at the scene.

The man, who could not be identified, was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene to investigate the accident and the the traffic was closed off on Church Road. Motorists were asked to avoid the area as the investigation was carried out.
