Fairbanks Abduction Sparks Trooper, Police Search

Several State Trooper patrol units, including an Alaska State Trooper helicopter, and several Fairbanks Police Department patrol units were alerted, responded and actively began a search after a call went in to the AST dispatch center in Fairbanks reporting an assault and a child taken from the residence.

When trooper units arrived at the residence, their investigation found that two people, 27-year-old Juan Victor Salgado Figueroa and an adult female had trespassed into the residence, assaulted two individuals there, damaged property and fled the scene with a three-year-old child.

Although several units had initially dispatched, the preliminary investigation showed that all involved in the incident had guardianship of the child and so the taking of the child did not meet the criteria for initiating an Amber Alert.

The search for the two adults and the child turned up no results but a short time later, Figueroa and the adult female turned themselves in at a local attorney’s office.

With the assistance of the adult female, the troopers would locate the missing child at the home of a third party. The child was taken to the Office of Children’s Services.

Figueroa was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass I, Assault IV(DV), Criminal Michief V, and Interfering with the Report of a DV Crime. He was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center and remanded there.

Troopers say that additional charges are possible after the report of the incident are forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.
