Alaska State Troopers report that a response to a disturbance call at a residence on Knik Goose Bay in Wasilla turned into a failed rescue attempt on Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers were notified at 2:18 PM on Wednesday by a Wasilla complainant that she was evicting a tenant, identified as 38-year-old Jeremiah Hoover of Wasilla and that he was causing a disturbance. Troopers were aware that Hoover was in violation of his conditions of release by being at that residence and so immediately dispatched to the residence to contact Hoover.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they attempted to make contact but Hoover got into his truck and fled to the rear of the property. Shortly thereafter, Hoover abandoned his truck and a K-9 unit was put on his trail. When the K-9 made contact with Hoover he took off all of his clothing and walked out naked onto the mudflats.

“AST Helo, EMS, and fire rescue responded to the scene and water rescue was put on standby,” AST reported. Troopers made numerous attempts to contact Hoover but were ultimately unsuccessful. Trooper dispatch said that “Due to safety concerns efforts to contact Hoover were abandoned.”

Troopers say that Hoover was last walking through a grassy area near the mud flats that afternoon.

At 9:15 pm on Wednesday night, Hoover gave himself up to troopers and taken to a local hospital for treatment of “cold weather-related injuries.” Following his discharge, Hoover was taken to Palmer and remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.
