Anchorage police have revealed the circumstances of the charges against 34-year-old Danerin Curtindale, who was arrested after a brief foot chase on Gambell Street yesterday.
Curtindale is one of four people who have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping, assault, burglary and robbery of a 19-year-old victim on November 1st.
According to the press release regarding the case, the 19-year-old victim contacted police on Tuesday, November 1st and reported that he had been kidnapped. Police immediately met with the victim and opened an investigation.
The victim told investigators, that on that day, he was invited by an acquaintance, identified as 18-year-old Dela White, for coffee in the downtown Park Strip area. Then at 11:30 AM, as he was walking with White on 10th Avenue near the strip, he was approached by 28-year-old Christopher Goenett. It was then that Goenett “held a knife to the victim and forced him into a vehicle,” police reported.
APD reported that when the victim was forced into the vehicle, he found that the two, White and Goenett had an accomplice, the police have identified as 28-year-old Tyrun Reynolds. Once in the suspects’ vehicle, the victim’s car keys, cell phone and wallet were taken from him.
The three suspects drove to a nearby ATM machine, forced the victim to reveal his PIN number, then removed the victim’s funds from his bank account. Following the removal of his funds from the bank, the victim was driven back to his vehicle. White and Curtindale then duct taped and handcuffed the teen and drove to his Eagle River residence. Once at the residence, the two suspects proceeded to burglarize his home. Once finished, the two suspects drove back to Anchorage with the victim, and dropped him off near C St. and Dowling. After the suspects left, the victim flagged down a bicyclist for help, and Anchorage police were contacted.
When detectives searched the home of one of the suspects on the 200 block of E. 12th Ave., they would discover over 500 items valued at more than $100,000. While some of the items that were recovered belonged to the teenaged victim, they would find that many of the items were stolen in unrelated, unsolved thefts, burglaries, and robberies.
Police say “It appeared that many of the items were likely stolen from vehicles and during the vehicle break-ins.” Investigators say that after breaking in and stealing items from the vehicles, garage door openers and vehicle registrations were also taken, which the suspects then used later burglarize the vehicle owner’s homes.
The release stated that “APD Property Detectives are currently combing through all of the seized items.” They report that items stolen from at least 10 cases have been identified, and expect to identify the property in more.
The four suspects, White, Goenett, Reynolds and Curtindale, are now in police custody. Police say that they suspect that White coordinated and planned the kidnapping and Eagle River burglary, and so is been charged with Kidnapping. Goenett has been charged with Kidnapping, Assault III, and Robbery I. Reynolds and Curtindale have both been charged with Assault III, Kidnapping, Robbery I, and Burglary I.
Investigators say that they believe that a fifth suspect is involved, but that they are currently working on identifying him. They have yet to release details as to his description and exact involvement in the cases.
