Four People Perish in Fiery Birchwood Plane Crash

The bodies of four victims of a fiery plane crash that took place in the Birchwood/Chugiak area on Wednesday morning have been recovered and their identities released following next of kin notifications.

Killed in the Cessna 172 crash that was reported just after 9 am this morning were the pilot, 64-year-old George Kobelnyk, his co-pilot, 20-year-old Christian Bohrer, 36-year-old Sarah Glaves, and 27-year-old Kyle Braun.

According to reports, the aircraft crashed into trees and broke apart and burned. There were no survivors in the crash and the cause of the crash is currently unknown.

The pilot of the ill-fated craft was a 14-year Federal Aviation Administration Employee, and worked as a principle inspector, assistant manager, and manager for the agency, as well as a long time National Transportation Safety Board air safety inspector with hundreds of investigations over a period of 10 years.

NTSB was on-scene and said that following the removal of the aircraft wreckage from the site, it will be 5-10 days before a preliminary report will be released.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
