Fairbanks Police Make Arrest in Fatal Sunday Morning Shooting of Fort Wainwright Soldier

One day after the fatal Sunday morning in Fairbanks that took the life of 19-year-old Jawuan Collins, Fairbanks police have a suspect in custody.

Fort Wainwright Criminal Investigation delivered 21-year-old Joshua Corona to the Fairbanks Police Department where he was placed under arrest and charged with the killing of Collins.

Corona shot Collins, a man he knew through the military in the very early morning hours of Sunday, there were three witnesses to the incident. One of the witnesses was Corona's wife. The police were called immediately after Collins was shot in the head with a .45 caliber pistol.

Collins, who arrived in Fort Wainwright in June, had enlisted in the Army in January of this year. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment,  1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.
