Alaska State Troopers responded to a Wasilla residence following an assault report, the trooper dispatch revealed on Sunday.

Troopers went to a Vine Road residence to conduct an assault investigation at 5:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. During the investigation, they interviewed the 59-year-old victim of the assault, and found that he had stopped and offered a ride to a hitch-hiker. During the course of the ride, troopers say, a Wasilla man, later identified as 23-year-old Dylan Stelzer, allegedly began assaulting the victim/driver.

The victim said that he “stopped the vehicle and sounded his horn for help.” Several bystanders responded to the sound of the horn and came to assist. At that point, Stelzer took the vehicle’s ignition keys and fled on foot.

Stelzer would be later identified, and troopers would later locate him at a nearby residence. When contacted, troopers would find that Stelzer was also the subject of two outstanding warrants for failure to appear, issued in July of 2015.

During his arrest, Stelzer was found to be in possession of Methamphetamine. After he was arrested, Stelzer was transported to Palmer, where he was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on the two outstanding warrants, and new charges of Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance IV, Assault IV, and Theft IV.

Stelzer’s bail was set at $8,250. He remains in custody.
