ANCHORAGE, ALASKA-Jessica Beagley, the "Hot-Sauce Mom," who made international news with her video showing her squirting Hot Sauce into the mouth of her 7 year old adopted son, received a verdict in her case in Anchorage today. She was found guilty of one count of misdemeanor child abuse.

The video displaying the punishment of the adopted Russian boy was shown on the “Dr Phil show” on November 17th, 2010, it immediately drew criticism from the studio audience, the viewers at home and internationally. The “Mommy Confessions” video prompted the Russian Embassy to contact U.S. officials. Yevgeniy Khorishko, the Russian Embassy press officer, stated, “This is the not the first case of the cruel attitude of adoptive American parents towards Russian kids. We are in contact with the U.S. officials regarding this case.”

It was this same video that was the most damaging evidence in the case against her.

By the end of January of 2011, Beagley was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and her trial began on Wednesday, August 17th. During the trial it was shown that Beagley had submitted videos over a year earlier to the “Dr Phil Show” but did not hear back from the show until a year later. The show told her that her videos were not angry enough to be aired on the program. It was then that Beagley went back and shot the video that has grabbed everyone’s attention.

Prosecutors, during the trial, argued that Beagley performed and taped the abuse in order to get on the show. Beagley’s attorney says no that is not the case. Instead they said, Beagley went on the show to find a way to help her son.

Russian video crews were present at the proceedings as were local writers and reporters.

The jury in the case, 3 men and 3 women, deliberated less than 24 hours before coming to a verdict decision.

The Office of Child Services, prior to the trial, found no case of child abuse when the case was reported to them. The children were allowed to remain in the home.
