Alaska State Troopers reported via trooper dispatch on Monday that Kobuk Sexual Assault suspect Clifton Sun turned himself in to authorities on Friday in the community of Kobuk.

Troopers say that they have been seeking the whereabouts of 53-year-old Clifton Sun since the initial charges of Sexual Assault of a Minor I&II, Sexual Assault I&II, and Assault IV were filed in the cases in June of 2015. The case stems from an incident with a 14-year-old teen in May of 2015.

Troopers suspect that members of the community were assisting in hiding Sun, helping him remain free from the charges. Sun had been seen in the community this month, but resisted attempts by community members to detain him.

Sun was arrested and transported to Kotzebue where he was remanded to the Kotzebue Jail with no bail pending arraignment. Sun appeared in court on the charges on Sunday and remains in the Kotzebue Jail.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
