On Sunday night, at approximately 10:45 pm, 38-year-old Tyrone Walker of Kodiak, called in to the trooper post there to report that his 2005 Ford Pickup had been stolen from a residence on Gull Drive.

At about the same time, another report had come in to the troopers reporting a vehicle that had hit a power pole at the corner of Gull drive and Sharatin Road. The caller reported that the vehicle was now in the ditch and no one was around.

When troopers investigated the accident scene, they found that the vehicle was the very same one that had just been reported stolen. The trooper investigation at the scene determined that Walker had been operating the vehicle when it crashed and that he walked a short distance to his home and reported it stolen.

When he was interviewed, it was also determined that Walker was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Troopers report that “Walker was arrested and transported to the Kodiak Jail where he was remanded on counts of Driving Under the Influence, Failure to Give Immediate Notice of Accident and Making a False Report.”

He was held on $1,500 bail pending arraignment.
