Although the snow machine belonging to 22-year-old Roger Hannon was retrieved from the open water approximately two and a half miles east of Elim, there are no signs of the missing traveler.

Blizzard conditions in the area hampered searches for the missing Hannon at the end of last week, but searchers were able to utilize hooks to retrieve Hannon’s machine from open water near the ice edge east of Elim. Search efforts using a remotely operated vehicle to search underwater proved fruitless however.

It was reported that Hannon had become separated from his traveling partner in blizzard conditions as they were making their way from Elim to Koyuk approximately 40 miles distant. Hannon was last seen on the sea ice east of the small community of Elim on the southern coast of the Seward Peninsula.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
