Lower Kalskag Man Succumbs to Gunshot Injuries

rural trooperAniak-based State Troopers traveled to Lower Kalskag on Wednesday to investigate a gunshot related incident.

Troopers received a call  from Lower Kalskag at 5:19 am on Wednesday reporting an individual there suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Shortly after, at 5:45 am, 20-year-old Jeremy Mike, of Lower Kalskag, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation personnel.

Troopers arrived at the small community at 8:38 am and conducted an investigation. They found that Mike had recently arrived at his Ephralm Street address, and in front of a relative, shot himself with a .22 caliber rifle.

The State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage directed that Mike’s remains be transported to their facility for autopsy.

The trooper investigation stated that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the incident, and they discovered no signs of foul play.

Next of kin was on scene.
