A Michigan man, taken to court on Felony charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct I as well as Kidnapping, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Domestic Violence, shot and killed two bailiff before being killed himself according to reports that came out of Berrian County.

At 2:25 pm, 44-year-old Larry Darnell Gordon, of Coloma, was being escorted to court in the Berrian County Courthouse when, while hand-cuffed, he grabbed a sidearm from an officer, and shot and killed two bailiffs, identified as 61-year-old Joseph Zangaro and 63-year-old Ronald Kienzle, and attempted to take hostages.

Two others, a deputy sheriff and a civilian were also shot and wounded in the incident. The deputy and the un-named civilian received non-life-threatening injuries.

Immediately after the incident, police and other bailiffs converged on the scene and Gordon was quickly shot and killed as he attempted to escape the court building.

The courthouse was evacuated during the incident and will remain closed on Tuesday.

Calling her ex-husband her best friend, Jessica Gordon said of Gordon, “He was an amazing man that got mixed up with the wrong people.” She continued saying of Gordon, that he “was probably terrified of having to go to prison and not seeing his family again.”

Authorities reported that Gordon showed “no warning signs” prior to the incident as he was being transferred through the corridors leading to the courtroom.
