New Mexico Drug Smuggler Sentenced to 12 Years

The Alaska State Trooper Dispatch reported on Monday that a drug dealer, arrested bringing in Heroin and Meth into the Community in 2012, was sentenced to 12 years on charges on Friday in Anchorage court.

23-year-old Enrique Lino of New Mexico was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his conviction on charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II and III after a jury trial that concluded on October 10th of 2014.

The trial and sentencing took place as a result of Lino’s arrest in June of 2012, when the Alaska State Trooper Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team contacted Lino as he was waiting to board a plane to Cordova. Troopers had been informed of a possible drug shipment being carried into the community by the Cordova Police Department. They had told troopers that a large shipment of drugs would be smuggled into Cordova by a person traveling from a southern state.

Acting on the lead, troopers detained Lino and applied for and received a search warrant that they subsequently served on Lino.As a result, WAANT would seize 25.6 grams of Heroin and 66.9 grams of Methamphetamine during the operation at the airport.

Lino was arrested for possession with intent to distribute for both of the drugs. Troopers estimated the street value of the drugs at $95,000.

Lino was housed at the Anchorage Correctional Facility while he awaited his trial and sentencing.
