A murder suspect took Anchorage police on a search lasting almost three hours on Monday evening in South Anchorage but was eventually taken into custody at 10:22 pm, police say.

Anchorage police responded to a shooting call at an address in the 4000 block of Lore Road at 7:45 pm. When police arrived at the address, they discovered 30-year-old Jorge Rea-Villa with several gunshot wounds. He was declared deceased at the scene.

The shooter was identified as 32-year-old Anchorage resident Trayvon Morrissette. Following the shooting, Morrissette fled the scene in a tan sedan.

Witnesses at the July 4th barbecue at the trailer confirmed that Morrissette and Rea-Villa knew each other, but could provide no clues as to why Morrissette shot the victim.

An hour later, police responded to the 600 block of West 76th for a break-in by a suspect matching Morrissette’s description. After breaking into the home, Morrissette “barricaded himself inside while locking the resident out,” police say. But, his stay in the apartment was short-lived and Morrissette fled the apartment on foot when police arrived at the scene.

APD continued to receive additional reports of break-ins and attempted break-ins in the area with the perpetrator fitting Morrissette’s description. With the help of citizens in the area providing police with information concerning Morrissette’s current whereabouts, police would finally locate the suspect “hiding in a stairwell at the 7400 block of Foxridge Way at about 10:22 pm,” police report.

Morrisette was arrested and transported to jail where he was charged with Murder I and Burglary and remanded with his bail set at $500,000.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
