Fairbanks North Star Borough Filing Deadline reached Wednesday
The fight for the North Star Borough Mayor race is pared down from last year when 6 people vied for the seat. Only three filed before the filing period closed at 4:30 yesterday afternoon.
Borough Mayor Luke Hopjins will defend his seat against Robert Morris of North Pole as well as Doyon's Executive, Norm Phillips. Hopkins won the election three years ago when a run-off election was held between him and Tammie Wilson.
Seven people have filed for the three available Borough Assembly seats and another seven have filed for seats on the City Council.
Two City Council seats are open, those seats do not have incumbents, as the term limits for Vivian Stiver and Chad Roberts have been reached. Vying fore Stiver's seat, seat "A" are Tim Sovde, Timothy Brannan, and David Lerman. Seat "B" will go to either Nick Bowen, Frank Turney, or Perry Walley.
There is only one seat that is going unchallenged this school board election period. Wendy Dominique is giving up her seat and Heidi Haas will go unchallenged for the seat.
