Roadside Welfare Check Results in Drug Bust

drug bustA welfare check on a woman reported to be walking on the side of the road in her underwear resulted in troopers arresting an Anchorage man on drug charges on Sunday morning the trooper dispatch reports.

At 9:51 am, troopers responded to a request to do a welfare check on a woman seen walking down the Parks Highway in what the caller said was her underwear. When troopers responded to the area, they would find that the woman was wearing a light jacket and short shorts.

When queried, the woman told troopers that she had been dropped off by her boyfriend, who she identified as 35-year-old Bernt Bishop of Anchorage.

Bishop would soon be found parked along side of the road sleeping. Troopers did an APSIN/NCIC check on Bishop and found that he was on probation for drug charges.

Bishop’s probation officer gave troopers permission to search Bishop’s vehicle. When they did so, troopers found 13.59 grams of Heroin and 0.7 grams of Crystal Meth.

As a result of the trooper’s discovery, Bishop was arrested for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II and IV.

Bishop was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded and his bail set at $7,500.
