Russian Mission Juveniles Take out Runway Lighting over Weekend

Alaska State Troopers, on Saturday, received a call from Russian Mission reporting that approximately 80% of their airport’s runway lights had been damaged by vandalism.

The report stated that over 50 of the runway’s had been damaged, and the airport lighting is currently not operational making any night flights, such as medivacs, unable to land at the strip.

Damages have been estimated at approximately $1000. Authorities say that that type of damage occurs on an annual basis at that airstrip.

The suspects in the incident range from the age of 6 to 9 years old, the report says.

Troopers asked that anyone with information about the juveniles involved in this incident to please contact the AST-St. Mary’s post.
