SEACAD Makes Multiple Large Seizures in Southeast Alaska

The Alaska State Troopers Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs, (SEACAD) Unit in Ketchikan and troopers from that community’s post made the last of seizures in their drug investigation to intercept drugs bound for Alaska from Washington state on Sunday. During that latest seizure, 13.25 pounds of marijuana and 3.15 pounds of Hashish oil was seized as it arrived in Ketchikan aboard a local barge line from Seattle.

This last seizure was part of an investigation that began with the first arrest of a Craig man as he disembarked from the M/V Kennicott in Ketchikan from Bellingham. At 7:15 am on Monday before  last, with the assistance of K-9 Lutri, SEACAD and troopers would discover that the suspect had in his possession 2.65 pounds of hashish oil products.

By 7:30 am the same morning, troopers from the Prince of Wales post and the Craig Police Department searched the suspect’s residence in Craig and would find 14 ounces of marijuana, an ounce of hashish, evidence of commercial distribution, and a butane extraction setup for manufacturing hashish oil.

Troopers estimate the total street value of the seized marijuana at $$171,514 and the total value of the hashishh to be $132,164.

Authorities say “Charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (Class B felony) and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree (Class C felony) will be referred to the Ketchikan District Attorney’s Office at a later time.”

    Funny how they can catch someone with a now legal substance but the flow of prescription drugs, heroine and most importantly Crystal Meth which plague even the most rural parts of AK seem to elude them at every turn..REEEEALLLLLLLY ?
