Selawik Man Jailed after Officer Assault

rural trooperA Selawik man is in custody at the Kotzebue Regional jail on DUI, Assault and a warrant arrest after an incident in the small community of Nooorvik this weekend.

It was early Saturday morning just after midnight that the Noorvik Village Police Officer attempted to stop 22-year-old Tommy L. Snyder while Snyder was operating his ATV in the community.

The trooper dispatch reports that when Snyder was stopped by the VPO, Snyder became belligerent and threatened to kill the VPO. After threatening the officer, Snyder then rammed his ATV into the officer’s ATV. No one was injured in the ramming.

Following the incident, the Northwest Arctic Borough Village Public Safety Officer in Noorvik initiated an investigation into the incident and as a result Snyder was placed under arrest for DUI, Assault III on an Officer and for an outstanding warrant.

Alaska State Troopers assisted in transporting Snyder to the Kotzebue Regional Jail where he was remanded pending arraignment.
