Alaska State Troopers responded to a Tok residence on Saturday after receiving a report from 21-year-old Eli Simpson that his mother was deceased at her residence.
When troopers arrived at the residence, they confirmed that that 51-year-old Riba Dewilde, was deceased, and had died from gunshot wounds. When found, Dewilde was covered in a blanket.
Following an investigation at the scene, it was determined that Dewilde had died from four gunshot wounds from a Winchester rifle.
Simpson told investigators that he had killed his mother in self defense and that he has endured abuse from her for years.
Simpson told investigators that he shot her at point-blank range, telling troopers he did not want her to suffer. After determining that she was dead, Simpson covered her up.
Simpson, who was the youngest of Dewilde’s six children, was arrested on charges of Murder I and II. He was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Center, and arraigned on Sunday. His next court date is December 7th.
