Tok Woman Dies from Knife Wound Received While Butchering Moose

ruraltrooperAlaska State Troopers reported via the trooper dispatch on Monday that Tok woman suffered a knife wound while butchering a moose on Friday, and later succumbed to her injuries at the Alaska Native Medical Center during the early morning hours of Saturday.

Troopers in Tok were informed of the unfortunate incident at 6:12 pm on Friday. It was reported to them that 60-year-old Vicky Mable Wontorski of Tok had suffered “a possible knife injury.”

A village resident said that Wontorski had fallen on her knife while butchering the moose and had possibly punctured a lung receiving a life-threatening injury.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation took over the investigation into the fatal incident and Wontorski’s remains were turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage.

Troopers report that the investigation into Wontorski’s death is continuing as they work to determine the exact cause and circumstances.
