Trapped Trooper Extricated by Girdwood Fire Department

trooper road accidentA Seward Highway traffic accident on Saturday afternoon resulted in a trooper being trapped in his vehicle and sustaining injuries it was reported by the trooper dispatch.

It was reported that as Trooper Peterson was traveling north-bound at mile 98.5 of the Seward Highway, a vehicle in front of Peterson lost control on the icy highway and slid into the ditch. Trooper Peterson activated his lights and pulled over to assist.

It was at that time that a gray 2009 Chevy pickup, driven by 26-year-old Caleb Adelmann of Seward, also traveling northbound, crashed into the back of the patrol vehicle. After the initial impact, the rear of the pickup swung around and again impacted the patrol vehicle on the driver’s side door, trapping Trooper Peterson in the vehicle.

At 12:35 pm, the Girdwood Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated Trooper Peterson from his patrol vehicle and transported him to Providence Alaska Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

No one else reported injuries in the incident.
