Troopers have arrested a North Pole man on Murder I charges after he was released from the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, the trooper dispatch reports.

Alaska State Troopers received a call reporting a deceased female in a driveway off of Larissa Drive in North Pole on Monday evening at 7:25 pm. When they arrived at the scene, they found 21-year-old Mandy Clemmons dead from a gunshot wound. Nearby, under a tree, troopers would find 33-year-old Russel Burris unconscious. Burris was transported to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital by EMS.

The trooper investigation would determine that Burris had shot Clemmons, killing her, before attempting to end his own life via overdose.

Clemmon’s remains were turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy and her next of kin were notified.

Burris, who is on Federal probation for bank fraud, was arrested and charged with Murder I upon his release from the hospital at noon Tuesday. Burris is prohibited from being in possession of firearms or drugs as a condition of his federal probation.

Troopers state that the investigation into the death of Many Clemmons is continuing.
