Tununak Man Arrested after Walking through Town Shooting Handgun

rural trooperOn Wednesday afternoon, a call went in to the Bethel Alaska State Troopers from the Tribal Police Officer in Tununak reporting that a man in that village was walking around the community with a handgun firing it into the air. The tribal officer identified the shooter as 26-year-old Greg Angaiak of that village.

Midway through his gunfire-laden trek through town, Angaiak ran out of ammo for his firearm. To remedy this, he went into the local store, stole more ammo, reloaded, and continued his walk through the community, firing his weapon into the air as he went.

Bethel Troopers traveled to Tununak and contacted Angaiak. He was taken into custody without incident.

There was no injuries or destruction of property in the incident.

Angaiak was charged with Misconduct Involving Weapons II and III, Assault III, Theft IV, Tampering with Physical Evidence and Violations of Conditions of Release on an earlier charge.

Angaiak was transported to Bethel, 115 miles to the southeast, where he was remanded to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center without bail pending arraignment. Angaiak was arraigned early Thursday morning. His next court date is May 15th.
