Two Anchorage Hikers Located Successfully Sunday Night

An Alaska State Trooper, on foot, was able to retrieve and lead out two hikers in the McHugh Creek area on Tuesday night, ending an approximately three hour search on Sunday night.

Troopers received a call from two Anchorage residents, 29-year-old Vince Stewart and 29-year-old Suzanne Weist, reporting they were lost in the Rabbit Lake/McHugh Creek area at 9:45 pm on Sunday night.

Soldotna Dispatch, using GPS information from the two hikers’ phone, were able to ascertain the approximate position of the hikers. Relaying that information to the responding trooper, the trooper walked in to the area on foot and was able to locate the hikers.

Once found, the two hikers were led to a trail in the area and together, the three hiked out to the McHugh Creek State Park parking area. Relatives were at the parking area to meet the two individuals just after midnight on Monday morning.

Troopers report that the hikers suffered no injuries.
