Hundreds of students hunkered down in buildings following a shooting incident at California’s UCLA on Wednesday where two people are reported dead.

The campus was put on lockdown and residents were urged to avoid going to the campus as authorities investigated the scene at the university.

At approximately 10 am, student and faculty cellphones sprang to life with alerts of gunshots fired, and thousands at the university sought cover at the college of approximately 40,000 students, barricading themselves in classrooms using what furniture was available.

The incident would come to a close when authorities discovered two gunshot victims in a small office in the engineering building of the educational complex. It was determined that the shooting was a murder/suicide and that one of those dead was the shooter. Police report that a note was found at the scene. The shooter was reported as a student who shot a professor. That professor was identified as 39-year-old UCLA associate engineering professor William S Klug.

Although there were reports that as many as four shooters were on the campus, police report that the incident was isolated to the two subjects found deceased. A firearm was recovered from the scene.

The incident occurred during the final days of the semester and students were busying themselves with up-coming finals and presentations.
