image08-04-2015 09.03.54Traffic came to a halt for 45 minutes after a single vehicle collision closed the Sterling Highway on Monday morning troopers report.

It was at 4:57 am, that the Anchor Point State Troopers responded to mile 154 of the Sterling Highway after receiving a report of a collision there.

When troopers arrived at the scene and began their investigation, they found that a 2009 Chevy Malibu, operated by 49-year-old Jacob “Troy” Watson of Homer, had crashed into a power pole there, knocking it down. When the pole went down, power lines fell on to the highway.

The Anchor Point Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted with traffic control until linemen with the Homer Electric Association could get to the scene and remove the power pole and the power line.

Watson told troopers that “he had fallen asleep” at the wheel and his vehicle left the highway and crashed into the pole. Watson reported no injuries and was released from the scene.
