Wasilla Car Thief Crashes Truck During Trooper Pursuit

Alaska State Troopers responded to the Big Lake Road and Meadowood Drive area in Big Lake after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle in the area. As troopers were responding to the call, they observed a blue Chevy SS pickup with no plates turning northbound on Big Lake Road, then taking off that I received.

Troopers hit their emergency lights and sirens and took off in pursuit as the truck failed to yield as it continued southbound on the Parks Highway.

As the vehicle turned on the Meadowlakes Loop and then onto Edgewater Drive, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Brandon Belanger, age 23 of Wasilla, lost control of the vehicle crashing into the trees.

Belanger exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

Troopers placed him under arrest and transported him to the Mat_Su Pretrial Facility on charges of Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer I and Theft II for the stolen vehicle that was reported stolen out of Anchorage.
