Wasilla Traffic Stop Turns into Car Chase, then Suspects Flee on Foot

image30-06-2014 08.34.58A traffic stop early Tuesday morning in Wasilla turned into a car chase then foot chase the trooper dispatch reported today.

Troopers attempted to pull over a 2002 Chevy Cavalier, license plates EEX769, on West Muffin Street in Wasilla at 1:33 am, but the vehicle sped away from the trooper according to the report.

Speeding away, the vehicle committed several traffic violations as it reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. But, after a short pursuit, the vehicle came to a stop and two suspects raced away on foot.

K-9 “Blazer” and his handler were called in to conduct a search the area. “Blazer” successfully led troopers to a nearby residence. The two fleeing suspects were located inside the home and identified as 26-year-old Zachary D. Butts and 25-year-old Tanesha M. Hart, both of Wasilla.

A quick records check by troopers would determine that Butts was wanted on an active $20,000 felony warrant Butts was arrested and initially charged with Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer, Driving While License Revoked,

Hart was charged with Hindering Prosecution I, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. 

Hart and Butts were transported to Palmer where they were remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility.

Butt’s bail was set at “$20,000.00 cash, $1000.00 c/c, and $250.00 performance bond, and Hart’s bail was set at $500.00 unsecured appearance bond and $50.00 performance bond,” it was reported by the trooper dispatch.

Hart and Butts were arraigned in Palmer Court on Tuesday afternoon.
