Wasilla Woman Dies in Knik-Goose Bay Road Accident

A Wasilla woman died in a single vehicle accident near mile 12 of the Knik-Goose Bay Road on Wednesday afternoon the trooper dispatch revealed.

According to the report, troopers responded to an accident on Knik-Goose Bay Road at 3:13 pm on Wednesday. Upon their arrival, they discovered that the driver, 40-year-old Lora Mahoney, a former teacher at the Mat-Su School District, had died as a result of her injuries in the crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The trooper investigation at the scene would reveal that Mahoney had been traveling southbound on the road when she crossed the centerline, continued across the opposing lane of travel, left the road, and collided with a tree.

The State Medical Examiner’s office also responded to the scene and took possession of Mahoney’s remains for autopsy.

Troopers report that the investigation into Mahoney’s death is continuing.
