EMMONAK-Alaska State Troopers were called by an Emmonak resident shortly before 1 o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, August 15th regarding the theft of items from his boat. Stolen were a chainsaw, a harpoon and some spears.

According to an Alaska State trooper report, AST investigated and found that Louis K. Immamak, age 36 from Emmonak had removed those items from the boat, placing them in his. Immamak’s boat was found adrift and floating towards a Kwikpac Fisheries barge anchored nearby.

When a trooper confronted Immamak on-shore, Immamak verbally threatened the officer and created a disturbance in a public place. Immamak was arrested and placed in a temporary holding facility in Emmonak to await arraignment on charges of theft in the third degree and disorderly conduct.

At 9 o’clock that evening, Immamak escaped from the facility after the guard there allowed Immamak to use the restroom facilities. Immamak fled by boat. At approximately 5:30 the next morning, cold and wet and without food, Immamak turned himself in to the authorities. An additional count was added, that of escape in the fourth degree.

Immamak was transported to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center and is awaiting arraignment. Alcohol was a factor in the incident and Alaska State Troopers are continuing their investigation.
