The Juneau police investigation into the death of that community’s newly elected Mayor, Greg Fisk has not determined the cause of death in the Monday afternoon incident.

Alerted to the Mayor’s death by a 3:34 pm 911 call made by Mayor Fisk’s adult son, Ian Fisk, police responded to Fisk’s downtown residence on Kennedy Street and began their investigation both inside and outside the home. Using flashlights, the investigation went well into the evening. Police say that they have ruled out forced entry into the home.

Although there has been speculation by the public that 70-year-old Mayor Fisk had been assaulted, Juneau police have not revealed information that give credence to those rumors. Police did say in a press release, that “detectives are actively investigating facts of the incident and all evidence is being preserved and documented.”

Juneau police say that Fisk’s remains will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage, and say the autopsy results will not be available for several days.

Mayor Fisk beat out incumbent mayor Merrill Sanford by an overwhelming margin in last month’s Mayoral election with 2919 votes for Fisk and 1470 for Sanford.

Police say that the “The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as appropriate.”[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
