A Mountain Village woman was sentenced to two years in prison Thursday after her mid-June plea of Assault II, for intentionally ramming into another woman pushing her one-year-old daughter in a stroller, then driving away without rendering aid.

23-year-old Georgianne Hanson received substantially less time, from Superior Court Judge Dwayne McConnell, than the state was asking for. The state had been asking for a sentence of six years.

It was on Wednesday, August 27th, 2014, that Hanson was operating a four-wheeler with her mother on the back of the ATV, when she saw another community member pushing a stroller with her toddler inside.

Hanson stopped and began arguing with the 34-year-old woman. After the argument, Hanson told the woman that she was going to hit her with her four-wheeler. True to her words, Hanson drove a short distance away and then turned around and drove back at the woman as she was pushing toddler in the stroller. She intentionally ran into the woman and the child then drove away without rendering aid.

The woman and the toddler were taken to the Mountain Village Clinic by a good Samaritan. They were later medevaced to the Bethel hospital, then on to ANMC in Anchorage for further treatment of their injuries. The mother suffered injuries to her head and neck as well as her back, leg and ankle. The child suffered a broken nose and abrasions to her face and other parts of her head.

The woman also would suffer from infections to her leg that required multiple surgeries.

Hanson was arrested by troopers who traveled to the village to investigate the incident. She was initially charged with Assault I and two counts of Assault II as well as Leaving the Scene without Assisting the Injured. She was later indicted by a Grand Jury on September 4th, 2014.

On June 18th of this year, Hanson entered in to a plea agreement with the state and pleaded guilty to one count of Assault II, as per the agreement, the  state dropped the four other charges.

During the sentencing proceedings, Hanson apologized saying “I’m sorry. I’m just really sorry.” Judge admonished Hanson, telling her that “You could have killed either of the victims.”

Hanson received four years probation in addition to her prison sentence.
