Nome Troopers Raid Marijuana Grow

drug bustAlthough the dispatch does not reveal the details leading up to a search warrant carried out in Nome on Thursday, it did report that Nome Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team and Nome-based Alaska State Troopers carried out a search warrant on a suspected marijuana grow in that community.

When officers traveled to the location in the Dexter/Triple Creek Subdivision outside of Nome, they went to a residence identified as that belonging to 53-year-old Anthony Shelp and 34-year-old Esther Olanna, both of Nome.

When their investigation was carried out, it revealed that 21 mature marijuana plants were being grown in two separate areas of the home. They also discovered six immature plants and approximately one pound of “buds.”

Also found at the residence was “various miscellaneous equipment,” that included “lights, ballasts, timers, chemicals, etc. used to grow the plants,” the trooper dispatch revealed.

According to troopers, the 21 mature plants found at the residence yielded an estimated 2.3 pounds of processed marijuana.

Both Shelp and Olanna are currently on conditions of release and not to be in possession of controlled substances.

Troopers forwarded charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance and Violating COnditions of Release to the Nome District Attorney’s office.

Troopers say that the estimated Nome street value of the marijuana seized is $32,000.
