Remains of Missing Snowmachiner Recovered from Kanektok River near Quinhagak

Late Thursday morning, the remains of the snowmachiner who was last seen last weekend as he set out to travel to Quinhagak were recovered from the Kanektok River just short of his destination, troopers reported.

48-year-old Timothy Beebe was reported overdue at approximately noon on Sunday after he failed to arrive at his hometown after departing Eek at 7:20 pm on Friday before, according to his family.

A Blackhawk helicopter search by the Bethel National Guard was joined by Alaska State Troopers and other ground searchers but failed to turn up anything until Wednesday. It was then that searchers dragging the shallow waters near Quinhagak with a net located Beebe’s submerged snow machine in the  Kanektok River.

By 11 pm on Thursday, searchers would also locate Beebe’s remains approximately a half-mile from his submerged machine.

Beebe’s remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.

His next of kin were notified of the discovery.
