Shooting Suspect Barricaded in Rural Alaska Community of Selawik

Early this morning, at 4:42 am, Kotzebue-based troopers received a report from the community of Selawik that a man there was discharging a firearm. Troopers also talked to the village police officer in Selawik and it was confirmed that a suspect had barricaded himself in a residence and additionally, there was another individual outside the residence deceased.

Four troopers from Ketzebue have responded to the scene.

It is unknown at this time if there are other persons in the residence with the un-named suspect.

Troopers are asking community members in Selawik to stay clear of the area.

Troopers are currently working to end the situation peaceably, Once the current situation can be resolved, troopers say that they will investigate the cause and circumstances of the shooting.
