Stolen Vehicle Call Results in Drug, Driving, and Evidence Charges

Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on the Parks Highway on Thursday and made three arrests, none of them for vehicle theft.

Troopers responded to the area of the Parks Highway and Vienna Woods and located the red 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 that had been reported stolen.

Troopers contacted the driver of the vehicle and identified her as Ilsa Asia Johnson of Wasilla. She was found to be driving with her license to drive was revoked. She was placed under arrest on that charge.

During the stop, troopers also contacted a passenger in the vehicle and identified him as Mitchell Kleewein. It was found that Kleewein has an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest. During a search of Kleewein after his arrest, troopers observed Kleewein throwing away “a small plastic container.” Troopers would retrieve the container and find that Kleewein “was in possession of heroin and crystal Methamphetamine,” according to the trooper dispatch.

A second passenger was released from the scene. The vehicle was impounded.

During transit, troopers would find that the Dodge contained a third, undiscovered passenger in the vehicle. That person was reported to be hiding under a pile of clothes in the backseat of the vehicle. Upon learning of this third passenger, troopers contacted the tow truck driver, who was still in transit from the scene,  and ordered him  to proceed to the Wasilla Police Department.

When the tow truck and the vehicle arrived at the police department, the third passenger, opened the door and attempted to flee with a large handbag. She was chased down and detained. She would attempt to give a false identity when contacted by officers, but her true identity would be ascertained as Kodiak resident Lynda Kopy.

Mitchell Kleewein was arrested on the outstanding warrant for the original charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance III and IV. His bail was set at $5,000 for the warrant. He was also charged with MICS IV for the container found during his arrest. His bail was set at $5,000 and a court approved third party on that count.
