Three Perish in Noatak after going through the Ice on Snow Machines

 

Alaska State troopers report that three individuals from Noatak who went through the ice on Monday near that community are now listed as deceased.

According to the report, Kotzebue troopers received a report at 1:08 am that two snow machines with multiple travelers had gone through the ice near Noatak. One of the travelers was able to make it to Noatak to report the incident.

Search and Rescue volunteers would find that one of the persons was deceased and two others were unaccounted for. The search by volunteers would find one of the missing alive but in serious condition. The victim was taken to the Noatak clinic then medevaced to Kotzebue but succumbed after arrival.

Then, at 3:44 am searchers located the last traveler deceased.

State and Wildlife Troopers responded to the community and conducted an investigation into the incident.

After next of kin notifications were made, troopers released the identities of the victims as Jan Westlake, 36, Amber Westlake, 31, and Alexandria Howarth, 11, all of Noatak.
