Alaska State Troopers are asking for the public’s assistance to locate a Ketchikan man who fled into the woods after producing what he said was a “bomb” from his person on Monday.

It was at 7:44 pm on Monday that troopers with the Ketchikan post attempted to arrest 22-year-old Ketchikan resident Herman Brown III for three outstanding Felony warrants during a traffic stop near mile 7.3 of the North Tongass Highway.

During the attempt to arrest Brown, Brown fought with the troopers and physically resisted. During the arrest, Brown produced what was described as a handheld explosive device that Brown said was a “bomb.”

Upon Brown’s statement, “troopers broke contact with Brown and attempted to get everyone to back away from the area while Brown III fled on foot into the nearby woods” the trooper dispatch reported.

Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, U.S. Forest Service personnel and Ketchikan Police attempted to locate Brown after the incident, but were unsuccessful.

The public is asked to call with any information as to the whereabouts of Brown to the Alaska State Troopers at 225-5118 or to Ketchikan Police at 225-6631. Authorities say your call will remain anonymous.
