Two Hikers Lifted from Skilak River Delta

According to the trooper dispatch, AST was notified of two stranded hikers at the Skilak River Delta on the Kenai Peninsula at 1:24 pm on Monday afternoon.

According to the report, the two hikers, identified as 41-year-old Donald Joachim and 34-year-old Benjamin Nabinger both of Soldotna, were stranded and could not cross the river’s delta because of recent thawing.

The hikers had set out from Seward and had hiked across the Harding Ice Field.

Although being stranded, the two reported that they had adequate food, water and shelter.

The Alaska State Trooper’s Helo-3 was launched and traveled to the scene. Once there, the two hikers were picked up, then transferred to the Soldotna Airport. Both were in good health and uninjured.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
