Copper Center Man Killed in Trooper Involved Shooting Early Friday Morning

Alaska State Troopers report that officers responding to a Domestic Violence Assault in Copper Center shot and killed a Copper Center man who had assaulted an elderly person and placed other family members in fear at 3:15 am on Friday morning.

Troopers received a DV assault call at 2:34 am on Friday reporting that 38-year-old Eric Hash was assaulting a 72-year-old and placing others in fear. Troopers would find that Hash left the residence as they were responding to the scene. Then they received a report that Hash had returned to the scene yelling and damaging property. The family members barricaded themselves in their home for safety, troopers reported.

When troopers made contact with Hash at 3:15 am, he was fired upon causing life-threatening injuries. He was medevaced to the local hospital but died from his injuries there. No other other details were immediately available. 

The  General Investigation unit responded to the scene and opened an investigation. Hash’s remains were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.

The trooper(s) that fired their service weapon will be placed on 72-hour mandatory administrative leave, AST stated.
