Sterling Teen Dies in Wednesday Night Kalifornsky Beach Road Crash

crash-fatalityA Wednesday night crash at mile 1 of Kalifornski Beach Road clamed the life of a 17-year-old teen, troopers reported Thursday.

Troopers responded to the scene of the crash at 9:05 pm on Wednesday and opened an investigation of the fatal accident. Their investigation revealed that 34-year-old Kasilof resident, Johnna Angleton was headed southbound on the road in a Ford pickup just off of the Sterling Highway, when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the ditch.

Angleton had two passengers in the vehicle with her at the time of the crash. While Angleton and one of the passengers, the deceased’s brother, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, 17-year-old Mykah Slater, was pronounced deceased at the scene.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]Another life was lost at mile 1 of Kalifornski Beach Road in a night-time crash less than two weeks earlier on September 22nd. In that crash, troopers would find 26-year-old Kasilof man, Billy Duncan, unconscious and not breathing about 50 feet from his vehicle. He was also pronounced deceased at the scene.

While troopers acknowledge that alcohol was a factor in the Duncan crash in September, they have not revealed the circumstances of this crash.

The driver in last night’s crash is currently out on bail as she awaits a scheduled January trial date on charges of Burglary I, Vehicle Theft I two counts of Theft II, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV, all felonies.
