Troopers responded to the scene of a vehicle in the ditch at 6:17 pm on Saturday, to investigate the single-vehicle accident. Their investigation found that 47-year-old Scott Sears was intoxicated when he drove his 1987 Chevy truck, with for minor occupants, into the ditch.

As the investigation continued, a second motorist arrived at the scene at 7:22 pm, to pick up the four minors that were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Troopers would determine that that driver, Camaron Alcantra, was also intoxicated. As a result, that driver was arrested and charged with DUI.

Sears was taken to the Trooper Post in Palmer, where he refused to submit to a Datamaster breath test. He was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, where he was remanded on charges of Felony DUI, Felony Refusal, Driving with License Revoked, and four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.
